earning the comptia security+

i earned the comptia security+ certification in june 2024. the exam covered topics such as foundational security concepts, threats and vulnerabilities, access control, risk management, and incident response.

i mostly used professor messer’s security+ videos on youtube and his practice exams to prepare. a lot of the material was also familiar from my cybersecurity degree, which definitely helped make the studying process easier.

the exam itself wasn’t too difficult, but i would have preferred taking it at a physical testing center instead of at home. the remote testing process ended up adding unnecessary stress to the experience.

for anyone studying for security+, i’d recommend finding a physical testing center nearby if possible. i also highly recommend professor messer’s materials. they were thorough, easy to follow, and covered every exam objective i needed to know.
